Pre-Kinder Class

Pre-Kindergarten

Ages 4 and 5

 

Our pre-kindergarten program for students entering kindergarten the following year is a 5 day a week program. The morning session runs from 8:30 to 12:00 am. In addition, child-care is available from 6am to 6pm.

 

This class uses Funshine Express Bible curriculum, Zoo Phonics, and Abeka for math and handwriting. In addition we use Core Knowledge Preschool concepts and various  hands-on activities in order to make sure that your child receives the best education possible to highly prepare him or her for kindergarten.

 

When your child graduates from Pre-Kindergarten, they will have been taught the following concepts:

  • Counting to 100

  • Recognition of number 1-20+, in sequential order

  • Adding and subtracting

  • Classifying 

  • Comparing sets of more and less

  • Basic graphing skills

  • Comparing objects

  • Cause and effect

  • Adding and subtracting concepts

  • Opposites

  • Parts of a book

  • Recalling specific details about stories, poems, and songs

  • Identifying and recognizing letters of the alphabet

  • Learning letter sounds and other phonemic blends

  • Exposure to reading 

  • Self expression through art, song, dance, and play

  • Fine motor skills, such as:

    • Proper pencil grip

    • Writing utensil control

    • Writing letters and numbers

    • Coordination

    • Strengthening of small muscles in hands, wrists, and arms

  • Gross motor skills, such as:

    • Balancing

    • Jumping

    • Walking backwards

    • Riding tricycle

    • Catching a ball

    • Strengthening of large muscles in arms, legs, and core

We will also be learning:

  • Conflict resolution

  • Sharing

  • Understanding and following rules

  • Using feeling words when solving problems

  • Interacting appropriate with others

  • Acceptance of differences in self and others

  • Taking turns through play, games, and class helpers

  • Lining up for classroom transitions

  • Personal hygiene and the importance thereof

  • Acknowledgement and validation of feelings, likes, and dislikes

  • Clear limits and simple class rules

  • Interaction in small group activities

  • Making choices of toys to play with and activities to do
